It is tempting to concentrate just on offense when just staring out, but defensive practice is absolutely vital. You can win a game, thanks to good defense. Offense is often what gets the glory, but most winning basketball teams play great defense.

When dribbling, make sure you hold your head high and look straight ahead. You should never be looking at the basketball while dribbling. Bring the basketball with you everywhere you go. Dribble the ball while you're walking around. Paying attention to the ball means you're not paying attention to the rest of the game.




Constantly practice layups. Eighty percent of the shots taken in a game are layups. When you practice, you need to be able to run toward the basket at full speed, then shoot while jumping in the air. This technique helps improve your on-court layup skills.

Free throws are as mental as physical. You must train both your body and your mind. Relax and focus on your shot, and you can make it.

To accomplish this pass, grasp the ball using your dominant hand. Then, move the basketball around your rear. The last step is to flick your wrist in the direction you want the ball to land. Build a consistent routine for your free throws. A consistent routine enables the shooter to have a perfect motion every time. The easiest way to make sure you're doing great at free throws is to do repetitions of the same routines time and again. If you break your routine, you'll start missing shots.
